Miguel Cotto (Junito) is a 44-year-old retired Puerto Rican professional boxer. He is a four-weightclass world champion with 7 world-title wins and a world-championship elevation. In a career spanning 16 years, 9 months, and 9 days, Cotto amassed a record of 41-6, which includes 33 wins via KO, 16 of which were in world-title fights. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 2022.
Miguel Cotto's Boxing Career
Miguel Cotto was born in Providence, Rhode Island, U.S. on October 29, 1980. He made his professional debut at the age of 20 years on February 23, 2001 against Jason Doucet. Cotto defeated Doucet via 1st round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Cotto became a world champion at the age of 23 after 20 professional fights. He challenged Kelson Pinto for the vacant WBO super-lightweight title and stopped Pinto in the 6th of the 12-round fight, winning his first world title.
He then went on to successfully conquer the welterweight (WBA, WBO), super-welterweight (WBA, WBO), and middleweight (WBC, The Ring) divisions as well to become a four-division world champion.
Cotto's last fight was a unanimous decision loss to Sadam Ali at age 37, on December 2, 2017, in which he lost his WBO super-welterweight title.
