Carlos Maussa was born in Montería, Colombia on September 24, 1971. He made his professional debut at the age of 28 years on July 31, 2000 against Juan Villadiego. Maussa defeated Villadiego via 4th round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Maussa became a world champion at the age of 33 after 21 professional fights. He challenged Vivian Harris for the WBA super-lightweight title and stopped the champion in the 7th of the 12-round fight, winning his first world title.
Maussa's last fight was a 1st-round KO loss to Victor Ortiz at age 36, on November 10, 2007.
