Victoriano Sosa was born in La Vega, Dominican Republic on April 17, 1974. He made his professional debut at the age of 20 years on January 30, 1995 against Alexis Urena. Sosa defeated Urena via 3rd round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Sosa became a world champion at the age of 23 after 13 professional fights. He challenged Hilario Guzman for the WBC lightweight title and stopped the champion in the 2nd of the 12-round fight, winning his first world title.
