Daniel Geale was born in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia on February 26, 1981. He made his professional debut at the age of 23 years on October 1, 2004 against Danny Bellert. Geale defeated Bellert via 3rd round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.

Geale became a world champion at the age of 30 after 25 professional fights. He challenged Sebastian Sylvester for the IBF middleweight title and defeated the champion via 12-round split decision, winning his first world title.
