Alfonso Gómez was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico on October 28, 1980. He made his professional debut at the age of 20 years on May 19, 2001 against Pedro Antonio Ochoa. Gómez defeated Ochoa via 4-round split decision, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
