Winky Wright

Winky Wright was born in Washington, D.C., U.S. on November 26, 1971. He made his professional debut at the age of 18 years on October 16, 1990 against Anthony Salerno. Wright defeated Salerno via 4-round unanimous decision, making a successful beginning of his pro career.

Wright got his first shot at a world title at the age of 22 after 25 professional fights. On August 21, 1994 Wright challenged Julio César Vásquez' WBA super-welterweight title but lost via 12-round unanimous decision.

He became a world champion on May 17, 1996 at the age of 24 years, after by defeating Bronco McKart, the then-reining WBO super-welterweight champion, via 12-round split decision. This was his 36th fight as a professional.

Wright then went on to successfully win the IBF, WBA, WBC, and The Ring super-welterweight world titles as well.

Wright's last fight was a unanimous decision loss to Peter Quillin at age 40, on June 2, 2012.
