Ike Quartey's Boxing Career
Ike Quartey was born in Accra, Ghana on November 27, 1969. He made his professional debut at the age of 18 years on November 26, 1988 against Mama Mohamed. Quartey defeated Mohamed via 2nd round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Quartey became a world champion at the age of 24 after 25 professional fights. He challenged Crisanto España for the WBA welterweight title and stopped the champion in the 11th of the 12-round fight, winning his first world title.
Quartey's last fight was a unanimous decision loss to Winky Wright at age 37, on December 2, 2006.
