Julio César González was born in Guerrero Negro, Baja California Sur, Mexico on July 30, 1976. He made his professional debut at the age of 20 years on April 7, 1997 against Alex Federov. González defeated Federov via 4-round unanimous decision, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
González got his first world-title fight at the age of 24 after 27 professional fights. On July 28, 2001 González challenged Roy Jones Jr.'s WBA (Super), WBC, and IBF light-heavyweight titles but lost via 12-round unanimous decision.
He became a world champion on October 18, 2003 at the age of 27 years, after by defeating Dariusz Michalczewski, the then-reining WBO light-heavyweight champion, via 12-round split decision. This was his 36th fight as a professional.
González' last fight was a unanimous decision loss to Felipe Romero at age 35, on September 30, 2011.
