Boxing Career
Gennady Golovkin was born in Karaganda, Kazakh SSR, Soviet Union on April 8, 1982. He made his professional debut at the age of 24 years on May 6, 2006 against Gabor Balogh. Golovkin defeated Balogh via 1st round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Golovkin got elevated as the WBA (Regular) middleweight champion at the age of 28 after 20 professional fights, and had his first world-title defense fight against Nilson Julio Tapia on December 16, 2010. He stopped Tapia in the 3rd of the 12-round fight.
He then went on to successfully win the IBF and WBC middleweight world titles as well.
Golovkin's latest fight was a unanimous decision loss to Canelo Álvarez at age 40, on September 17, 2022, in which he was fighting for the undisputed super-middleweight world championship.
