Matthew Macklin was born in Birmingham, West Midlands, England on May 14, 1982. He made his professional debut at the age of 19 years on November 17, 2001 against Ram Singh. Macklin defeated Singh via 1st round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Macklin got his first shot at a world title at the age of 29 after 30 professional fights. On June 25, 2011 Macklin challenged Felix Sturm's WBA middleweight title but lost via 12-round split decision.
Macklin's last fight was a majority decision victory over Brian Rose at age 33, on April 9, 2016.
