Kosei Tanaka's Boxing Career
Kosei Tanaka was born in Tajimi, Gifu, Japan on June 15, 1995. He made his professional debut at the age of 18 years on November 10, 2013 against Oscar Raknafa. Tanaka defeated Raknafa via 6-round unanimous decision, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Tanaka became a world champion at the age of 19 after 4 professional fights. He challenged Julian Yedras for the vacant WBO strawweight title and defeated Yedras via 12-round unanimous decision, winning his first world title.
He then went on to successfully conquer the light-flyweight (WBO), flyweight (WBO), and super-flyweight (WBO) divisions as well to become a four-division world champion.
Tanaka's latest fight was a split decision loss to Phumelele Cafu at age 29, on October 14, 2024, in which he lost his WBO super-flyweight title.
