Ángel Acosta's Boxing Career
Ángel Acosta was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico on October 8, 1990. He made his professional debut at the age of 22 years on November 17, 2012 against Alexis Díaz. Acosta defeated Díaz via 3rd round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Acosta got his first shot at a world title at the age of 26 after 16 professional fights. On May 20, 2017 Acosta challenged Kosei Tanaka's WBO light-flyweight title but lost via 12-round unanimous decision.
In his next fight, he got another shot at the light-flyweight WBO title — this time against Juan Alejo. He defeated Alejo via 12-round unanimous decision, winning his first world title.
Acosta's latest fight was a 10th-round KO loss to Ricardo Rafael Sandoval at age 33, on July 6, 2024.
