Floyd Patterson (The Gentleman of Boxing) was an American professional boxer. He was a heavyweight world champion with 2 world-title wins. In a career spanning 20 years and 8 days, Patterson amassed a record of 55-8-1, which includes 40 wins via KO, 8 of which were in world-title fights. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 1991.
Floyd Patterson was born in Waco, North Carolina, U.S. on January 4, 1935. He made his professional debut at the age of 17 years on September 12, 1952 against Eddie Godbold. Patterson defeated Godbold via 4th round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Patterson became a world champion at the age of 21 after 31 professional fights. He challenged Archie Moore for the The Ring heavyweight title and stopped the champion in the 5th of the 15-round fight, winning his first world title.
He then went on to successfully win the WBA heavyweight world title as well.
Patterson's last fight was a 7th-round RTD loss to Muhammad Ali at age 37, on September 20, 1972.
