Vivian Harris was born in Georgetown, Guyana on June 17, 1978. He made his professional debut at the age of 19 years on November 4, 1997 against Leviticus Long. Harris defeated Long via 1st round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Harris became a world champion at the age of 24 after 23 professional fights. He challenged Diosbelys Hurtado for the WBA (Regular) super-lightweight title and stopped the champion in the 2nd of the 12-round fight, winning his first world title.
