Artur Beterbiev was born in Khasavyurt, Dagestan ASSR, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union on January 21, 1985. He made his professional debut at the age of 28 years on June 8, 2013 against Christian Cruz. Beterbiev defeated Cruz via 2nd round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.

Beterbiev became a world champion at the age of 32 after 11 professional fights. He challenged Enrico Kölling for the vacant IBF light-heavyweight title and stopped Kölling in the final round of the 12-round fight, winning his first world title.

He then went on to successfully win the WBC, WBO, WBA, and The Ring light-heavyweight world titles as well — and undisputed at light-heavyweight.

Beterbiev's latest fight was a majority decision loss to Dmitry Bivol at age 40, on February 22, 2025, in which he was fighting for the undisputed light-heavyweight world championship and lost his WBA, IBF, WBC, WBO, and The Ring titles.
