Joe Smith Jr.

Joe Smith Jr. was born in Long Island, New York, U.S. on September 20, 1989. He made his professional debut at the age of 20 years on October 31, 2009 against David Brown. Smith Jr. defeated Brown via 1st round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.

Smith Jr. got his first shot at a world title at the age of 29 after 26 professional fights. On March 9, 2019 Smith Jr. challenged Dmitry Bivol's WBA light-heavyweight title but lost via 12-round unanimous decision.

He became a world champion on April 10, 2021 at the age of 31 years, after by defeating Maxim Vlasov, the then-reining WBO light-heavyweight champion, via 12-round majority decision. This was his 30th fight as a professional.

Smith Jr.'s latest fight was a unanimous decision loss to Gilberto Ramírez at age 34, on October 7, 2023.
