Dick Tiger was a Nigerian professional boxer. He was a two-weightclass world champion with 8 world-title wins and a world-championship elevation. In a career spanning 18 years, 6 months, and 14 days, Tiger amassed a record of 60-19-3, which includes 27 wins via KO, 2 of which were in world-title fights. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 1991.
Dick Tiger was born in Amaigbo, Colony of Nigeria on August 14, 1929. He made his professional debut at the age of 22 years on January 1, 1952 against Simon Eme. Tiger defeated Eme via 2nd round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Tiger became a world champion at the age of 33 after 61 professional fights. He challenged Gene Fullmer for the WBA middleweight title and defeated the champion via 15-round unanimous decision, winning his first world title.
He then went on to successfully win the light-heavyweight (WBA, WBC, The Ring) titles also to become a two-division world champion — and undisputed at both the divisions.
Tiger's last fight was a unanimous decision loss to Emile Griffith at age 40, on July 15, 1970.
