Bob Foster (The Deputy Sheriff) was an American professional boxer. He was a light-heavyweight world champion with 4 world-title wins. In a career spanning 17 years, 2 months, and 6 days, Foster amassed a record of 56-8-1, which includes 46 wins via KO, 11 of which were in world-title fights. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 1990.
Bob Foster was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, U.S. on April 27, 1942. He made his professional debut at the age of 18 years on March 27, 1961 against Duke Williams. Foster defeated Williams via 2nd round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Foster became a world champion fight at the age of 26 after 33 professional fights. He challenged Dick Tiger for the WBA, WBC, and The Ring light-heavyweight titles and stopped the champion in the 4th of the 15-round fight, winning his first world titles. With this win, he also became the undisputed light-heavyweight world champion — in his very first world-title fight.
Foster's last fight was a 2nd-round TKO loss to Bob Hazelton at age 36, on June 2, 1978.
