LEGEND

Nino Benvenuti's Boxing Career

Nino Benvenuti was born in Isola d'Istria, Kingdom of Italy on April 26, 1938. He made his professional debut at the age of 22 years on January 20, 1961 against Ben Ali Allala. Benvenuti defeated Allala via 6 round points decision, making a successful beginning of his pro career.

Benvenuti became a world champion fight at the age of 27 after 56 professional fights. He challenged Sandro Mazzinghi for the WBA and WBC super-welterweight titles and stopped the champion in the 6th of the 15-round fight, winning his first world titles. With this win, he also became the undisputed super-welterweight world champion — in his very first world-title fight.

He then went on to successfully win the middleweight (WBA, WBC, The Ring) titles also to become a two-division world champion — and undisputed at both the divisions.

Benvenuti's last fight was a 3rd-round TKO loss to Carlos Monzón at age 33, on May 8, 1971, in which he was fighting for the undisputed middleweight world championship.

Some of Nino Benvenuti's best fights have been against Emile Griffith (HOFer) and Denny Moyer. For a complete list of Benvenuti's best fights and their details, refer to "Best fights of Nino Benvenuti".

Benvenuti has 7 losses on his record. For details about these losses refer to "Nino Benvenuti Losses".
