Ishe Smith was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S. on July 22, 1978. He made his professional debut at the age of 22 years on July 29, 2000 against Jose Meraz. Smith defeated Meraz via 3rd round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Smith became a world champion at the age of 34 after 29 professional fights. He challenged Cornelius Bundrage for the IBF super-welterweight title and defeated the champion via 12-round majority decision, winning his first world title.
