Richard Commey's Boxing Career
Richard Commey was born in Accra, Ghana on March 10, 1987. He made his professional debut at the age of 23 years on February 26, 2011 against Baba Nsor. Commey defeated Nsor via 2nd round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Commey got his first shot at a world title at the age of 29 after 24 professional fights. On September 9, 2016 Commey challenged Robert Easter Jr.'s IBF lightweight title but lost via 12-round split decision.
He became a world champion on February 2, 2019 at the age of 31 years, after by defeating Isa Chaniev in a clash for the vacant IBF lightweight champion. Commey stopped Chaniev in the 2nd round of the 12-round world-title fight. This was his 30th fight as a professional.
