Sugar Ray Leonard (Sugar) is a 68-year-old retired American professional boxer. He is a four-weightclass world champion with 10 world-title wins. In a career spanning 20 years and 24 days, Leonard amassed a record of 36-3-1, which includes 25 wins via KO, 8 of which were in world-title fights. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 1997.
Sugar Ray Leonard was born in Wilmington, North Carolina, U.S. on May 17, 1956. He made his professional debut at the age of 20 years on February 5, 1977 against Luis Vega. Leonard defeated Vega via 6-round unanimous decision, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Leonard became a world champion fight at the age of 23 after 25 professional fights. He challenged Wilfred Benítez for the WBC and The Ring welterweight titles and stopped the champion in the final round of the 15-round fight, winning his first world titles.
He then went on to successfully conquer the super-welterweight (WBA, The Ring), middleweight (WBC, The Ring), and super-middleweight (WBC) divisions as well to become a four-division world champion — and undisputed at welterweight.
Leonard's last fight was a 5th-round TKO loss to Héctor Camacho at age 40, on March 1, 1997.
