Wilfred Benítez' Boxing Career

Wilfred Benítez was born in New York City, U.S. on September 12, 1958. He made his professional debut at the age of 15 years on November 22, 1973 against Hiram Santiago. Benítez defeated Santiago via 1st round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.

Benítez became a world champion fight at the age of 17 after 25 professional fights. He challenged Antonio Cervantes for the WBA and The Ring super-lightweight titles and defeated the champion via 15-round split decision, winning his first world titles.

He then went on to successfully conquer the welterweight (WBC, The Ring) and super-welterweight (WBC) divisions as well to become a three-division world champion.

Benítez' last fight was a unanimous decision loss to Scott Papasodora at age 32, on September 18, 1990.
