Ricky Burns' Boxing Career
Ricky Burns was born in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, Scotland on April 13, 1983. He made his professional debut at the age of 18 years on October 20, 2001 against Woody Greenaway. Burns defeated Greenaway via 4 round points decision, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Burns became a world champion at the age of 27 after 30 professional fights. He challenged Román Martínez for the WBO super-featherweight title and defeated the champion via 12-round unanimous decision, winning his first world title.
He then went on to successfully conquer the lightweight (WBO) and super-lightweight (WBA) divisions as well to become a three-division world champion.
Burns' latest fight was an 8th-round TKO victory over Willie Limond at age 40, on September 1, 2023.
