Donald Curry was born in Fort Worth, Texas, U.S. on September 7, 1961. He made his professional debut at the age of 19 years on December 26, 1980 against Mario Tineo. Curry defeated Tineo via 1st round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Curry became a world champion at the age of 21 after 15 professional fights. He challenged Jun-Suk Hwang for the vacant WBA welterweight title and defeated Hwang via 15-round unanimous decision, winning his first world title.
He then went on to successfully win the super-welterweight (WBC) titles also to become a two-division world champion — and undisputed at welterweight.
Curry's last fight was a 7th-round TKO loss to Emmett Linton at age 35, on April 9, 1997.
