Marlon Starling

Marlon Starling was born in Hartford, Connecticut on August 29, 1959. He made his professional debut at the age of 19 years on July 27, 1979 against Tim LaValley. Starling defeated LaValley via 3rd round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.

Starling got his first world-title fight at the age of 24 after 32 professional fights. On February 4, 1984 Starling challenged Donald Curry's WBA and IBF welterweight titles but lost via 15-round unanimous decision.

He became a world champion on August 22, 1987 at the age of 27 years, after by defeating Mark Breland, the then-reining WBA welterweight champion, via 11th round TKO. This was his 46th fight as a professional.

Starling then went on to successfully win the WBC welterweight world title as well.

Starling's last fight was a majority decision loss to Maurice Blocker at age 30, on August 19, 1990, in which he lost his WBC welterweight title.
