Boxing Career
Iran Barkley was born in Mott Have, Bronx, New York City, New York, U.S. on May 6, 1960. He made his professional debut at the age of 22 years on December 9, 1982 against Larry Jordan. Barkley defeated Jordan via 2nd round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Barkley got his first shot at a world title at the age of 27 after 25 professional fights. On October 23, 1987 Barkley challenged Sumbu Kalambay's WBA middleweight title but lost via 15-round unanimous decision.
He became a world champion on June 6, 1988 at the age of 28 years, after by defeating Thomas Hearns in a clash for the vacant WBC middleweight champion. Barkley stopped Hearns in the 3rd round of the 12-round world-title fight. This was his 29th fight as a professional.
Barkley then went on to successfully conquer the super-middleweight (IBF) and light-heavyweight (WBA) divisions as well to become a three-division world champion.
Barkley's last fight was a 6th-round TKO loss to Keith McKnight at age 39, on July 31, 1999.
