Jesús Chávez' Boxing Career
Jesús Chávez was born in Delicias, Chihuahua, Mexico on November 12, 1972. He made his professional debut at the age of 21 years on August 5, 1994 against Lewis Wood. Chávez defeated Wood via 4-round unanimous decision, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Chávez got his first shot at a world title at the age of 28 after 36 professional fights. On November 10, 2001 Chávez challenged Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s WBC super-featherweight title but lost via 9th round RTD.
He became a world champion on August 15, 2003 at the age of 30 years, after by defeating Sirimongkol Singwancha, the then-reining WBC super-featherweight champion, via 12-round unanimous decision. This was his 42nd fight as a professional.
Chávez then went on to successfully win the lightweight (IBF) titles also to become a two-division world champion.
Chávez' last fight was a 4th-round RTD loss to Jorge Linares at age 37, on October 24, 2010.
