Jorge Linares was born in Barinas, Venezuela on August 22, 1985. He made his professional debut at the age of 17 years on December 15, 2002 against Kyong-Soo Chung. Linares defeated Chung via 1st round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Linares got elevated as the WBC featherweight champion at the age of 22 after 25 professional fights, and had his first world-title defense fight against Gamaliel Díaz on December 15, 2007. He stopped Díaz in the 8th of the 12-round fight.
He then went on to successfully conquer the super-featherweight (WBA) and lightweight (WBC, WBA, The Ring) divisions as well to become a three-division world champion.
Linares' last fight was a unanimous decision loss to Jack Catterall at age 38, on October 21, 2023.
