Elwin Soto was born in San Felipe, Mexico on December 23, 1996. He made his professional debut at the age of 19 years on October 15, 2016 against Efrain Gonzalez. Soto defeated Gonzalez via 6-round unanimous decision, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Soto became a world champion at the age of 22 after 15 professional fights. He challenged Ángel Acosta for the WBO light-flyweight title and stopped the champion in the final round of the 12-round fight, winning his first world title.
