Josh Taylor was born in Prestonpans, Scotland on January 2, 1991. He made his professional debut at the age of 24 years on July 18, 2015 against Archie Weah. Taylor defeated Weah via 2nd round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.

Taylor became a world champion at the age of 28 after 14 professional fights. He challenged Ivan Baranchyk for the IBF super-lightweight title and defeated the champion via 12-round unanimous decision, winning his first world title.

He then went on to successfully win the WBA, The Ring, WBC, and WBO super-lightweight world titles as well — and undisputed at super-lightweight.

Taylor's latest fight was a unanimous decision loss to Jack Catterall at age 33, on May 25, 2024.
