Diego Corrales (Chico) was an American professional boxer. He was a two-weightclass world champion with 5 world-title wins. In a career spanning 11 years and 19 days, Corrales amassed a record of 40-5, which includes 33 wins via KO, 5 of which were in world-title fights. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 2024.
Boxing Career
Diego Corrales was born in Columbia, South Carolina, U.S. on August 25, 1977. He made his professional debut at the age of 18 years on March 19, 1996 against Everett Barry. Corrales defeated Barry via 3rd round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Corrales became a world champion at the age of 22 after 28 professional fights. He challenged Robert Garcia for the IBF super-featherweight title and stopped the champion in the 7th of the 12-round fight, winning his first world title.
He then went on to successfully win the lightweight (WBO, WBC, The Ring) title also to become a two-division world champion.
Corrales' last fight was a unanimous decision loss to Joshua Clottey at age 29, on April 7, 2007.
