Boxing Career
Joel Casamayor was born in Guantánamo, Cuba on July 12, 1971. He made his professional debut at the age of 25 years on September 20, 1996 against David Chamendis. Casamayor defeated Chamendis via 1st round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Casamayor became a world champion at the age of 28 after 20 professional fights. He challenged Baek Jong-kwon for the WBA super-featherweight title and stopped the champion in the 5th of the 12-round fight, winning his first world title.
He then went on to successfully win the lightweight (WBC) titles also to become a two-division world champion.
Casamayor's last fight was an 8th-round TKO loss to Timothy Bradley at age 40, on November 12, 2011, in which he was fighting for the WBO super-lightweight title.
