Mark Magsayo was born in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Philippines on June 22, 1995. He made his professional debut at the age of 17 years on May 25, 2013 against Melton Sandal. Magsayo defeated Sandal via 1st round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Magsayo became a world champion at the age of 26 after 23 professional fights. He challenged Gary Russell Jr. for the WBC featherweight title and defeated the champion via 12-round majority decision, winning his first world title.
