Boxing Career
Rey Vargas was born in Otumba, Mexico on November 25, 1990. He made his professional debut at the age of 19 years on April 10, 2010 against Claudio Palacios. Vargas defeated Palacios via 1st round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Vargas became a world champion at the age of 26 after 28 professional fights. He challenged Gavin McDonnell for the vacant WBC super-bantamweight title and defeated McDonnell via 12-round majority decision, winning his first world title.
He then went on to successfully win the featherweight (WBC) titles also to become a two-division world champion.
Vargas' latest fight was against Nick Ball on March 8, 2024, which ended in a split decision draw.
