Boxing Career
Juan Laporte was born in Guayama, Puerto Rico on November 24, 1959. He made his professional debut at the age of 17 years on October 29, 1977 against Johnny Green. Laporte defeated Green via 1st round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Laporte got his first shot at a world title at the age of 21 after 16 professional fights. On December 13, 1980 Laporte challenged Salvador Sanchez' WBC featherweight title but lost via 15-round unanimous decision.
He became a world champion on September 15, 1982 at the age of 22 years, after by defeating Mario Miranda, the then-reining WBC featherweight champion, via 10th round RTD. This was his 25th fight as a professional.
Laporte's last fight was a split decision loss to Billy Costello at age 39, on June 18, 1999.
