Rick Lockridge was born in Tacoma, Washington, U.S. on January 10, 1959. He made his professional debut at the age of 19 years on August 9, 1978 against Tony Reed. Lockridge defeated Reed via 2nd round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Lockridge got his first shot at a world title at the age of 21 after 16 professional fights. On October 4, 1980 Lockridge challenged Eusebio Pedroza's WBA featherweight title but lost via 15-round split decision.
He became a world champion on February 26, 1984 at the age of 25 years, after by defeating Roger Mayweather, the then-reining WBA and The Ring super-featherweight champion, via 1st round KO. This was his 36th fight as a professional.
Lockridge then went on to successfully win the IBF super-featherweight world title as well.
Lockridge's last fight was a unanimous decision loss to Sharmba Mitchell at age 33, on April 22, 1992.
