Kostya Tszyu (Thunder from Down Under) is a 55-year-old retired Australian professional boxer. He is a former super-lightweight world champion with 5 world-title wins. In a career spanning 13 years, 3 months, and 3 days, Tszyu amassed a record of 31-2, which includes 25 wins via KO, 11 of which were in world-title fights. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 2011.
Boxing Career
Kostya Tszyu was born in Serov, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union on September 19, 1969. He made his professional debut at the age of 22 years on March 1, 1992 against Darrell Hiles. Tszyu defeated Hiles via 1st round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Tszyu became a world champion at the age of 25 after 13 professional fights. He challenged Jake Rodríguez for the IBF super-lightweight title and stopped the champion in the 6th of the 12-round fight, winning his first world title.
He then went on to successfully win the WBC, WBA, and The Ring super-lightweight world titles as well — and undisputed at super-lightweight.
Tszyu's last fight was an 11th-round RTD loss to Ricky Hatton at age 35, on June 4, 2005, in which he lost his IBF and The Ring super-lightweight titles.
