Frank Bruno was born in Wandsworth, London, England on November 16, 1961. He made his professional debut at the age of 20 years on March 17, 1982 against Lupe Guerra. Bruno defeated Guerra via 1st round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Bruno got his first shot at a world title at the age of 24 after 29 professional fights. On July 19, 1986 Bruno challenged Tim Witherspoon's WBA heavyweight title but lost via 11th round TKO.
He became a world champion on September 2, 1995 at the age of 33 years, after by defeating Oliver McCall, the then-reining WBC heavyweight champion, via 12-round unanimous decision. This was his 44th fight as a professional.
Bruno's last fight was a 3rd-round TKO loss to Mike Tyson at age 34, on March 16, 1996, in which he lost his WBC heavyweight title.
