Boxing Career
Steve Cunningham was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S. on July 15, 1976. He made his professional debut at the age of 24 years on October 28, 2000 against Norman Jones. Cunningham defeated Jones via 4-round split decision, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Cunningham got his first shot at a world title at the age of 30 after 19 professional fights. On November 25, 2006 Cunningham challenged Krzysztof Włodarczyk's IBF cruiserweight title but lost via 12-round split decision.
In his next fight, he got another shot at the cruiserweight IBF (vacant) title. This time he defeated Włodarczyk via 12-round split decision, winning his first world title.
Cunningham's latest fight was a unanimous decision victory over Frank Mir at age 44, on April 17, 2021.
