Carl Thompson's Boxing Career
Carl Thompson was born in Manchester, England on May 26, 1964. He made his professional debut at the age of 24 years on June 6, 1988 against Darren McKenna. Thompson defeated McKenna via 2nd round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Thompson got his first shot at a world title at the age of 31 after 21 professional fights. On June 10, 1995 Thompson challenged Ralf Rocchigiani's WBO cruiserweight title but lost via 11th round TKO.
He became a world champion on October 4, 1997 at the age of 33 years, after by defeating Ralf Rocchigiani in a clash for the vacant WBO cruiserweight champion. Thompson won the fight via 12-round split decision. This was his 26th fight as a professional.
Thompson's last fight was a points decision victory over Frédéric Serrat at age 41, on November 26, 2005.
