Saldívar became a world champion fight at the age of 21 after 26 professional fights. He challenged Sugar Ramos for the WBA, WBC, and The Ring featherweight titles and stopped the champion in the 12th of the 15-round fight, winning his first world titles. With this win, he also became the undisputed featherweight world champion — in his very first world-title fight.
Saldívar's last fight was a 4th-round KO loss to Éder Jofre at age 30, on October 21, 1973, in which he was fighting for the WBC featherweight title.
