Boxing Career
Akira Yaegashi was born in Kitakami, Iwate, Japan on February 25, 1983. He made his professional debut at the age of 22 years on March 26, 2005 against Omoyoshi Nakayama. Yaegashi defeated Nakayama via 1st round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Yaegashi got his first shot at a world title at the age of 24 after 6 professional fights. On June 4, 2007 Yaegashi challenged Eagle Den Junlaphan's WBC strawweight title but lost via 12-round unanimous decision.
He became a world champion on October 24, 2011 at the age of 28 years, after by defeating Pornsawan Porpramook, the then-reining WBA strawweight champion, via 10th round TKO. This was his 17th fight as a professional.
Yaegashi then went on to successfully conquer the flyweight (WBC, The Ring) and light-flyweight (IBF) divisions as well to become a three-division world champion.
Yaegashi's last fight was a 9th-round TKO loss to Moruti Mthalane at age 36, on December 23, 2019, in which he was fighting for the IBF flyweight title.
