Boxing Career
Gregorio Vargas was born in Santa María Natívitas, municipality of Cuautepec, Hidalgo. on October 27, 1970. He made his professional debut at the age of 17 years on May 7, 1988 against Raul Capitan. Vargas defeated Capitan via 2nd round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Vargas became a world champion at the age of 22 after 31 professional fights. He challenged Paul Hodkinson for the WBC featherweight title and stopped the champion in the 7th of the 12-round fight, winning his first world title.
Vargas' last fight was a unanimous decision loss to Eleazar Contreras Jr at age 34, on November 6, 2004.
