Alexander Povetkin was born in Kursk, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union on September 2, 1979. He made his professional debut at the age of 25 years on June 11, 2005 against Muhammad Ali Durmaz. Povetkin defeated Durmaz via 2nd round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
