Carlos Monzón (Escopeta) was an Argentinian professional boxer. He was a middleweight world champion with 4 world-title wins. In a career spanning 14 years, 5 months, and 24 days, Monzón amassed a record of 87-3-9, which includes 59 wins via KO, 10 of which were in world-title fights. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 1990.
Carlos Monzón was born in San Javier, Santa Fe, Argentina on August 7, 1942. He made his professional debut at the age of 20 years on February 6, 1963 against Ramón Montenegro. Monzón defeated Montenegro via 2nd round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Monzón became a world champion fight at the age of 28 after 80 professional fights. He challenged Nino Benvenuti for the WBA, WBC, and The Ring middleweight titles and stopped the champion in the 12th of the 15-round fight, winning his first world titles. With this win, he also became the undisputed middleweight world champion — in his very first world-title fight.
Monzón's last fight was a unanimous decision victory over Rodrigo Valdéz at age 34, on July 30, 1977, in which he successfully defended his undisputed middleweight championship.
