TJ Doheny was born in Portlaoise, Ireland on November 2, 1986. He made his professional debut at the age of 25 years on April 27, 2012 against Pichit Sithkruwin. Doheny defeated Sithkruwin via 1st round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Doheny became a world champion at the age of 31 after 19 professional fights. He challenged Ryosuke Iwasa for the IBF super-bantamweight title and defeated the champion via 12-round unanimous decision, winning his first world title.
