Francisco Vargas was born in Mexico City, Mexico on December 25, 1984. He made his professional debut at the age of 25 years on March 12, 2010 against Daniel Calzada. Vargas defeated Calzada via 4-round unanimous decision, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Vargas became a world champion at the age of 30 after 23 professional fights. He challenged Takashi Miura for the WBC super-featherweight title and stopped the champion in the 9th of the 12-round fight, winning his first world title.
