Cleveland Williams was born in Griffin, Georgia on June 30, 1933. He made his professional debut at the age of 18 years on December 11, 1951 against Lee Hunt. Williams defeated Hunt via 3rd round KO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Williams got his first world-title fight at the age of 33 after 71 professional fights. On November 14, 1966 Williams challenged Muhammad Ali's WBC and The Ring heavyweight titles but lost via 3rd round TKO. Williams never got a world-title shot again.
Williams' last fight was a unanimous decision victory over Roberto Davila at age 39, on October 28, 1972.
