Billy Joe Saunders was born in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, England on August 30, 1989. He made his professional debut at the age of 19 years on February 28, 2009 against Attila Molnar. Saunders defeated Molnar via 2nd round TKO, making a successful beginning of his pro career.
Saunders became a world champion at the age of 26 after 22 professional fights. He challenged Andy Lee for the WBO middleweight title and defeated the champion via 12-round majority decision, winning his first world title.
